LPG How to guide?

Has there ever been an LPG how-to guide in PPC? I can't remember ever seeing one but it might have occurred before I got my subs sorted out and was buying them haphazardly.

I'm thinking of LPG-ing the domestic short-hair as a way of saving money for better things - turbos or a V8 for example! :D

I know that I'll need some sort of flashlube kit installed too as apparently the duratec V6 has soft valves and on lpg it can lunch them in 30k miles. Kits come up for sale from £300 upwards or I could get someone else to do it for £2K.

Thoughts please?

S'ok, I've found this place which seems to answer a lot of questions
http://www.lpgforum.co.uk/index.php

Looking at various websites it looks like for a decent kit I'd need to set aside ~£1000 to do it myself with new kit. I'll a sequential kit as its a plastic + ally manifold on the S-type. And I'll need a flashlube kit not to kill the valve seats.

Or I buy a cheap diesel

Well if you look at the auction above you'll see one bid at £200. :D

Was from an S280 so should be about enough to run mine on lpg even if it has to switch back to petty for full power.

I'll still need a flashlube kit (~£150 all in) and to get it certified once its in but that should only be another £400 tops. Insurance tell me it'll be £32 extra which I'll make back in a single tank full :D

Well aware, but the main intention is to save ~£70 a month on fuel bills. That can be put to better things. Like a big brake kit and wheels that will fit over them 8)

Once you get the kit, email the manufacturer with the make
and model and ask them if they would be able to email a
copy of the fitting instructions in a pdf file.

I did that when I originally fitted the Neon with a lpg kit
when the car had a 4 cylinder engine. And the manufacturer
was helpful enough to do so.

Failing that if you can't get one from them I have a fitting
manual off then which includes instructions for a v6 which
might be useful as a guide. So pm me with your email address
and I would send you it in pdf format.

I've downloaded the manual from the manufacturers website. Its an AC STAG300 kit which seems to be well regarded in the DIY community.

I'll take a copy of it on holiday to familiarise myself on the flight, I'm not gonna get chance to start fitting it before then.

His editorial team is stacked with experience with the likes of Dave Walker (speciality engine management), of the sadly-missed Car and Car Conversions magazine, David Vizard, the legendary engine tuning guru, and Kevin Leaper (speciality buying cars in pubs) – ex technical editor of Practical Classics. Have a look at the Staff Cars and features to give you a flavour of PPC but for the real thing get along to your local WH Smiths or independent newsagent.
