It's Sunday morning, I've had a microwave Kerbab and pork scratchings for breakfast and it's time for this weeks "Y" test.

2/ Inspired by our youngest and newest members transplant idea here's a 205 with a Supra engine. ;)

That's incredible! 1UZ's are getting more popular now so luckily the conversion is becoming more and more viable for me! :D

I'm praying for this weather to clear up so I can get on with it now

I was really surprised to see how much interest this build has received at such an early stage, thank you! Maybe some day I'll have my little red rolla here as part of the "Y" test :D

I've never really 'got' burnout competitions. Its a bit like a standing up competition, I'd get very bored and go do something else long before the end.

Its one of thoses things that you need to make into a real spectacle and put it on while the the main attraction is having lunch. This fella from Orstralia seems to think is a good use for a 6 second Pro Mod.

There seems to be a theme here: Methanol fumes.

So how much Methanol do you have to sniff before this becomes a good idea?

Burnout contests started out in a similar to drifting I guess. Quarter mile guys and gals warming up their tyres but not being as quick as the others one day someone said...

"I bet I can spin my tyres longer than you"

...and the rest is why the hole in the O-Zone layer is so big. ;)

Drifting probably started out with a bunch of racers who were very fast getting a bit of opposite lock and the guy or gal behind saying...

"That looked good, bet I can hold a slide longer than you though"

...and the rest was lost in translation.

In the colonies and communist states both drifting and burnout competitions are big business. They're catching on over here. However valid a form of motorsport you feel they are; they're here to stay and not going away.

Not sure I'd classify it the same as drifting. I feel drifting has some skill to it and *can* be interesting to watch.

The romantic story of the origins of drifting as a sport say it started from illegal mountain racing in japan and by drifting the car sideways as long as possible you made it impossible for the guy behind to pass you. Wikipedia disagrees though so I've no idea which it was. Wikipedia is probably right as it doesn't mention Chuck Norris once in the article.

I remember my friend who lived in japan for a few years rode shotgun with a friend once when he went drifting - he said it was the most civilised illegal thing he'd ever witnessed. They even had drivers going ahead, effectively race marshalls, who would stop the oncoming traffic for when the racers came by. The oncoming traffic were fine with being stopped while the racers went past 8)

Exactly; someone who wasn't as fast as someone else holding the car sideways to stop them overtaking.

The whole "art" of drifting is just bad sportsmanship.

As far as I found out Drifting started with racers trying to go faster round corners and taking the Jimmy McRae line.

Racers have been drifting for as long as there have been race engines do spark the rears up on the apex. Its a bit like making a sport at the driving range to see who can hit the back fence with a golf ball.

His editorial team is stacked with experience with the likes of Dave Walker (speciality engine management), of the sadly-missed Car and Car Conversions magazine, David Vizard, the legendary engine tuning guru, and Kevin Leaper (speciality buying cars in pubs) – ex technical editor of Practical Classics.
