I'm starting to like 'care in the community' now.

It has a much lighter side to it

Is that the same unit the sits at 100mph when the govenor accidently (four screws) falls off?

Weld the two rear wheels together and use a pair of 800 section tyres from an Ant?

Could be on to something here.

I know I said "some turbo diesels" could be competetive but Practical Performance Truck?

Put it this way, when the lorry was mine, i went, in the early hours, from Newcastle Town Moor to Mansfield, with a 8 ton trailer on the back. In 2 hour 5 mins non-stop, a few years ago, when i first passed my lorry test, that's 162 miles, that's an average speed of 80.7mph!!!
(I mean, in theory of course, i would never drive that fast on public roads, even in a car).

This lorry is a 1979, so it pre-dates any speed limiter laws.
Silkolene, used to race the same model unit, in the 80's, all they had done to that was turn up the boost and fit a race seat, harness, and rollcage. Monday to friday in was used for haulage. They used to hit over 100mph on the track.

Basicly,
A) you'd strip everything you can(like with a car), this would include, the whole cab interior, replace side/rear windows with perspex, take off the 5th wheel coupling, remove the inner wheels on the rear, take off the twin diesel tanks and replace with a single small tank, etc...
This should remove somewhere in the region of 1-1.5 ton.

B) using Cummins data sheets, adjust the injector pump for maximum power/torque, this involves only time, not parts.

C) using either shims/washers or replace the spring, alter the wastegate actuator to increase the turbo boost pressure.

D) weld up the reduction hub gears to increase the final drive to 1:1 rather than 3:1.

E) run it in for a special vehicles test(pretty close to a car MOT), as it is no longer a haulage lorry.

F) win the £999!!!!

That is pretty much it, apart from some odd minor jobs.

You're looking at about £200 for the jobs and about £500-700 for the lorry.

This just has to be done. Just for the sheer mentalness of it. 10 litres of cummins for a track-day motor. I love it. :P

There will be a fair bit of chassis that will be surplus to requirements too, if you have the angle grinder out anyway.

I doubt i will do it for this year, "Cunning Plan" is my main priority, seeing as i'll be using it through the summer as a daily.

The ERF would be just a bit of sillyness, and i don't think i'll have time to do anything other than buy it this year.

But we'll see...

Well, the ERF has fell through, at the moment, as he's keeping it to pull a new ride he's bought.

But, his father-in-law is swapping lorries soon, and he has a 265 Rolls Royce Eagle powered 4 wheel ERF.

The Rolls Eagle engine is easier to tune, because it's a linear pump, so it's easier, and less complicated to alter. Plus, i can have it for about £250-300, if i'm happy to wait and can pick it up as soon as he's done swapping over.
