[quote="Relentless Rob Makes you wonder why the factory didn't do it. A Lexus V8 or bonkers V6 version with a few tweaks would have held its own against the NSX.[/quote]

The SW20 MR2 would've been a pretty serious weapon had it ever met up with the later 345bhp 2GR-FZE supercharged V6 as fitted to the Lotus Evora. :D

No body cutting and just 1 mount at the cambelt end. The other 3 'engine' mounts are on the std gearbox which bolts straight up to the V6. :D

Now that would be a plan for 2012 MR2/NSX

In my experience you can take half inch off any valve guide for better flow, and not have nasty valve probs, we've heard of people basically cutting them in half!!! but they are on cars that get 4 rebuilds a year!!!

You'd be amazed at the better flow with a mild porting/remove casting marks/ open ports behind valve seats, and port matched manifolds, they make a big difference, esp in low end torque, and help top end power, WIN WIN situation.

I think this V6 conv is gonna suprise you with how fast it's gonna be!!, loadsa torque and 230+bhp in a go-kart.
My bet on the handling course, all day long!!

Ok Mark, I'll 'mill' the guides down and smooth them in on the inlet side first. If I'm happy with the result then I'll probably do the exhausts too.

I am looking forward to using it in anger, should be fairly rapid

I have no doubt its gonna be rapid matey, looking back on the 2010 times, if you ran the MR6 you would've won!!!
Exept these 'rally homologation cars' that seem to grow on 'under a grand' trees, i can't see much bothering you on the handling front!!!
Although if Dum Dum's Dutton with major torque comes in at 500kg, it's gonna deffo be 1 to watch!!!

Yes Dum Dum, we're watching you, your torquey lil lightweight is our outside bet to upset the megapower cars, as you only need 160-180bhp and 250lbft to be really really quick in half a ton!!!

The VVC Imp in PPC a few of issues back gave me the idea. Instead of the VVC how about an engine capable of a reliable(?) 300bhp and well built gearbox.

I'm sure there's already an MR2 Turbo powered Imp but for £999 would be awesome. ;)

Practical Performance Car (PPC) magazine, a monthly publication aimed at real car enthusiasts, with real-world cars. At PPC we pride ourselves in providing the most entertaining, informative and inspiring features for petrolheads everywhere. Each month we feature an eclectic mix of affordable performance cars, great driving adventures and world-class technical features for the DIY tuner.

Everyone who works on the magazine is a dyed-in-the-wool car enthusiast and this is reflected in the cars we drive and the topics we write about. Whether it be fast road, track-day or grass roots motorsport you’ll find it in PPC. Our editorial team is headed up by well known editor Will Holman. Will has a deserved reputation for his ’stick a V8 under the bonnet’ attitude to life and has had (and crashed/ had stolen/ rusted away) enough cars to fill a monthly magazine on his own. His editorial team is stacked with experience with the likes of Dave Walker (speciality engine management), of the sadly-missed Car and Car Conversions magazine, David Vizard, the legendary engine tuning guru, and Kevin Leaper (speciality buying cars in pubs) – ex technical editor of Practical Classics. Have a look at the Staff Cars and features to give you a flavour of PPC but for the real thing get along to your local WH Smiths or independent newsagent. PPC is on sale on the last Thursday of every month.
