Hello again, this weekend I finished my work miday saturday and had time to work on the car a bit :) :) Its been 6 weeks since I've spent more than about half an hour on it. It literally felt like a relief.

I welded the pulley on, but its not on straight, so I'll have to redo that, hopefully no biggy.
Image

I've ordered all the SS pipe and silencers in so when I get a week off (in a weeks time) I'll hopefully be able to put the whole exhasut system together (there should be loads more progress then).
These two pipes sat in the car at the mo will for the ends of the tubular manifolds.
Image

They're 2.5" and this gives an idea how they might look on the back of the car
Image

The bends on the second maniold are nearly done now, I'm really looking forward to having the manifolds finished, I wasn't really looking forward to doing the second one, its sucha pain in the arse.

More to come next week.

I got these in the post today, I'm so Excited :) :),

I've set myself the not too unresonable target of having the whole exhaust system finished with the Wideband sensor, by the end of week off (which starts soon).

The front oval silencers are Jetex, the rear round ones are Mijex, and all the pipework and silencersa re 2.5" straight through, and you guess it, T304 Stainless Steel. :)

Right finally some progress, far from the week of car work I was looking forward to its been two days and that'll be it for a bit again :( things just come up don't they!

But its been productive. I feel like I've finally broken the back the exhaust manifolds, this second manifold has been looming for ages, and its fair to say It's not been the most enjoyable of things to make, and I knew exactly how hard it would be as its the second of two. Having said that I'm well happy to have been working on the car again and although I'm not going to get the exhausts finished like I'd hoped, the rest isn't that hard a job so it won't be long.

So the pipes for the second manifold are all cut and shut to shape
Image

You can see here before welding that the shape of the pipes isn't that bad (it just looks bad when they're welded :) )
Image
Image

This took a very long time each of the 27 cuts took time and thought then lots of angle grinding, then some more angle grinding to make sure it shut neatly then tacking shut

Then they were all welded up
Image

And finally ground down in the high places, I tried the flap wheel Owelly. I found it to be a bit easier to use than grinding discs but still very time consuming on 27 fairly high welds so I gave it up and now I have a matching pair of bird poo manifolds :)

I'm not too fussed though as its what's inside that counts and they'll be wrapped soon anyway.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

Then wire wheeled for good measure and now they're tacked in place ready to be welded to the header plate.

Hopefully next time I get some time I'll get these pipes welded up the header plate and start making the collector.

Got a few more parts in the post, wheel boxes for the wipers and a cruise control system to add to the mix :)

More to come

YEAH!!! :) :) :) Got over a day to work on the car this weekend.

So I tried to get the exhausts finished, didn't quite get them done, but not far off.

Firstly got the exhausts in the right place (shortening them and angling the back silencers up will be one of the last jobs)
Image

This meant I could see how well the pipes lined up with the manifolds and what shape the collectors need to be.
Image
Image

The rest of the exhaust system is all slide joint.
Image

Now making the collector, after it lined up beautifully with the exhaust pipe.

Then welding and shaping the final piece of the puzzle (I'd forgotten how to use the flash)

And the finished, fully de-burred item.

And on the car

Now just got to make the other, but this one won't take long.

More to come, as soon as I can (might not be for a while).

Thanks dropout :) I started really enjoying it after the 6 primaries were done, that did take forever.

The exhausts are close now, I can't wait to hear it, I really really hope its not too loud. (but fear it will be)

If it's too noisey, man-up you big mincer....oh that's not I meant. Try a crossover pipe as each pulse of sound will be puffing through all four boxes.

I'd like to fit an X pipe jobby, but the chassis kind of prohibits it. I'll try your other suggestion on manning up first :)

If it is too loud, A balancer pipe is a good idea as Owelly says, and exhaust wrap shuts em up a bit, but i reckon you'll be fine mate, the systems are the same design as many aftermarket 'zorsts, just with man-sized welding!! :D
Keep it up loz, whats next on the list??

Next, there's quite a bit, I need to

Order a prop shaft,
Do something with the roll hoop, probably replace it with a stringer one and brace it onto the chassis points that I welded in at the start of the project,
Get the last few bits for the lpg installation,

Either:
Put the upgrated brakes back on
Or
Make some even more upgraded ones

Make up all the brake lines
Make the inlet ducting and buy some cone filters
Put in the Slippy diff,
Finish installing all the new switch gear and loom to work with the four computers that the car will have (LC-1, Cruise, ECU and LPG ECU)
Poly carb all the side and rear windows,
Make the new seat mounts

Then I guess, I'll hopefully be onto mapping myself as best I can to save a bit of rolling road time before I take it somewhere for squeezing out all the power possible.
I'd also love to get it into PPC, in the section where they tweak suspension and stuff, cos I know the spring and damper rates are all wrong, and I need someone better than me to tell me how to sort it.

So just a little list then :)

True, plenty to do....but there's light at the end of the tunnel! You've come a long way, and we know you enjoy working on the beast, enjoy yourself mate, before you know it, you'll be driving it and looking around for the next project!!!
