Turn the sunroof round so it folds from the back......
Or make a fibreglass roof panel.

Weld up the roof? That way no unwanted water ingress and you can save some weight, plus get more headroom.

Or just make an sheet with a folded lip and rivet it around the lip that the old sunroof had and use seam sealer or similar to seal it up. Will look cack though.

It's the lip at the front that's the issue. Duct tape along the edge would solve it. I think a sheet of metal would weigh more than the canvass.

Will do my car's ever look cack? ;)

What you need is a wind deflector like on an old granada mk2 rounded goes over end or take It out and rivet a piece of perspex in its place.

£150 cheaper than the Rover to insure and I can declare modifications as I go. :)

If I have enough time tomorrow I'll get the car taxed and a proper road test. ;)

So in the cold light of day she's a bit of a shed.

The usual rust spots...

Image|http://thumbsnap.com/fXPIkXQM

Image|http://thumbsnap.com/2jLg36s9

...nothing to worry about.

Also showing signs of the cars age...

...bent rear bumper (invisible car syndrome)...

Image|http://thumbsnap.com/fUVKtqLm

...had a look underneath to see if the braket was salvagable...

Image|http://thumbsnap.com/0BewB1Fy

...and found more rust. ;)

Whatever cracked the headlight...

Image|http://thumbsnap.com/CjdHhhkA

..also broke the grille. Possibly a Pheasant or Grouse. A very unique Tartan interior...

Image|http://thumbsnap.com/8uBOqizL

...most important I managed to get the heater working. The contact points of the switch were dry. I'll give the car a wash and tidy up tomorrow as it's half term and I have been distracted by little people today. ;)

First day out in the Panda today. I'd forgotten how ropey narrow tyres are. ;) £71.50 to rent the car from the DVLA for six months and half a tank of Tesco's finest Petrol for £20! (when I had my first Panda in 1998 it was £20 per tank). Gave the car a good clean and installed a decent stereo.

I'd like to take the Panda to the run what you brung day at Santa Pod. Do I take the car as standard or start modification right away as the £999 Challenge is in June and I'll be pressed for time?

Had a "Panda" moment today. On the way home I noticed the driver side headlight was dimmer than the passenger side. Now because my car is an early 1988 model (registered February 26th 1988 so could well be a 1987 model that was in stock) it still has the Lucas LLB012 H4 headlight bulbs. 1988 was the transition year for the headlights being upgraded to the three pin and spring type so a later one could have the bulbs upgraded a lot easier. So thinking the bulb was on it's way out and not having a spare I reluctantly had a look. Both bulbs were like new. Hmmmm, cleaned the terminals and it made no difference either. There was an old connector block on the harness so the headlights would flash when the alarm was set off. This was on main beam so it couldn't be that. Cleaned the inside of the lens and reflector, again no difference. So I followed the harness to the body earth on the passenger side, sprayed it with WD40 and wobbled the connectors about until both lights were bright again. ;)

Ordered a pair of bulbs as a back up and dug my driving lamps out of my shed.

All uk pandas came with the llb 012 non halogen bulbs right up to 95. Halogen replacement are avaiable but the most important bit is to make sure the earths are good. I find the best trick is to cut off the spades at the earth 'hedgehog' and use large ring connectors bolted to the earth point. Also never run on just sidelights, it will burn out the switch due to a switch design fault.
