Cleaning valves?

I've got the valves out of my MG ZS and they need a bit of a clean. To be fair they aren't that bad but whilst I have the head off I may as well give it all a good clean.

What is the best way to get the carbon off?

Pop the valve in your drill chuck and apply a bit of emery paper to the spinning valve.

What they said. I've found a pillar drill and wet and dry sand paper soaked in WD40 works well.

If you don't have a pillar drill then pop your drill in the vice or clamp it to the bench.

Worked a treat, I have a clarke pillar drill thing you fasten a normal drill into. I found it easiest with this tilted on its side:
