Harness eye bolt location...

Aye up,

I just thought I'd ask for the collective opinion on this...

I have a couple of questions about the location of the eye bolts, for my harnesses.

First, I was planning to fit the eye bolts for the lap straps to the original captive nuts fitted to the car.
My problem is, the outer bolt is in the bottom of the A pillar, but the inner bolt is, on the tunnel, is located roughly 6" further back, and 2" higher.
Will this be ok to use, or would I be better relocating the inner bolt, so it's level with the outer bolt?

Second, the bolts for the shoulder straps...
They will fit into the top edge of the parcel shelf/seat back panel.
Do I fit them horizontally, so they are facing the back of the seat, or do I fit them vertically, so they are pointing towards the roof?
I think horizontal would be the better way to fit them, but thought I'd ask...

The difference in height of your waist strap will cause uneven tension under load and could make you risk possibly damaging your lower back, Pelvis or hips.

Shoulder straps at shoulder height is a good idea. You need to weld the eyelets to the strongest point possible. I'd personally weld them to the shelf as close to the vertical join as possible and go so far as to seam weld the two panels together for extra strength.

are you running a proper bucket seat? They will compensate a little for the difference in height as the strap will pass through holes that will centralise the way load is spread through the straps. Ideally, you want them to be as even as possible, so as long as the straps sit in the same line, then you should be fine, however the way you describe it, they're not. I used the original seatbelt mounting point for one of my eye bolts in the polo, the other I welded a lug into the tunnel approximately opposite the outer fixing point.

You want the attachment points to be as short as possible and evenly spaced as possible. Have you got or can you install a harness bar behind the seat? That would be the ideal placement. Especially if you're going to be using a HANS device at any point. Some useful info here:

This is how I've fitted it at the moment, it's the best I can do, due to the centre bearing and handbrake cable bracket being in the tunnel, where I wanted to fit the bolt...
