Lowering springs Problem

Tell PPC and the readers.

Postby bobmcn » Sun Jun 17, 2012 4:12 pm

Hi, having a problem with my apex lowering springs (35mm drop). I fitted them about a month ago but been getting a knocking/clunking from the front for the past 2weeks, I've changed the anti roll bar bushes, drop links and have since put new front shocks as one was leaking, but still getting the clunking from the front. Decided to strip down suspension and found that the top 3 coils have been hitting off each other as they are are marked and have taken the paint off the spring.

They are the right springs as I emailed the company I got them from to double check before I ordered them. I have put the standard springs back on now, and no knocking or clunking.

Anyone know what would cause this or have had a similar problem? Is it safe that the top 3 coils hit so easy? Any help greatly appreciated, thanks.

Unless the springs are becoming completely springbound, I doubt its the springs making your clonk. I take it they are progressive springs and as such, its fairly normal for the 'softer' bit of the spring to touchdown.

Thanks Owelly. Its got to be the springs as the the top 3 coils are are marked where they have been compressing and hitting. (I would add a picture but im unsure how to).
I was thinking that if i put some sort of sleeve on them the knocking wouldn't be so bad as it's not metal on metal.
