Aye definitely a lot easier to stick a valver in it, even better to have put a meggy 2.0 in it and make it on a par with a williams, I even suggested putting a 5gtt engine in it but you know what women are like and she didnt want any of those ha ha ha

I already had a lot of the parts lying about in the garage, plus a desire to learn new tricks so when I suggested I put throttle bodies on it I found a suggestion that my girlfriend agreed with, and so it began.

Time for an update and a few more pictures. Its been a while since the last one, mostly becaue the evenings were still dark and thats about the only spare time I get to do anything. Now it is light I've been getting on with things, added to that the planned deadline of French Car Show (2007) to get it up and running.

I got the replacement brake lines in, they fit OK, not as good as I would have liked and maybe I'll do them again eventually but they'll do for now.

A couple of brackets needed modifying for clearance, did a good job of these I think, and sprayed them black while they were out [:)]

Started to remove ALL the renault ECU related wiring, loom from the ECU here broken out of all the protection so I could see what needed to stay and what could come out,

Eventually got all this removed

Next 2 pictures were all that I left in the engine bay, top one has all the lights and stuff in, bottom one is the starting/charging wires loomed together again.

This one has old renault loom at the bottom, my loom at the top where the coolant temp sensor and Lambda wiring join

And lastly for now the wires so far that need to go into the car for he megasquirt.

I still need to fit the coilpack somewhere in the engine bay and wire it in, adding the EDIS wires to the loom into the car. I also have all the bits I need to fit the oil temp/pressure gauge on order so that'll be going in this week.

Interesting build here mate. I'm keeoign an eye onyour progress 'cos I'd like to perk up my 19's 1.4 motor a bit more. Thus far it's had a mild port and the valves reprofiled, Unfortunately my combustion chamber work was piss-poor and it has a consequently lumpy idle[:I] I've got one or two 19's under observation on Ebay with a view to getting one for a spare engine to play with. I am currently thinking of getting some exhaust tubing to make a better fannymould out of, if I get anywhere with this idea I'll try and remember to get some pics and post them.[:)]

I have it on good account that the bottom ends on the energy engines are tough as nails, and there is plenty of tuning potential on them for not much money.

An easy jumpin power is to fit the 1.6 bottom end from a megane with the energy engine They're pretty much a straight swap and offer the obvious increase in capacity. The head to get though comes off earlier energy engines as found in early clios, or the 19 [:D] A port and polish job on the head works wonders, when I swapped the head on the clio it gained a bit over 10bhp !!! and that was on (almost) back to back RR days !

Funnily enough I was in the scrappy the other day looking for replacement wheels for my 19 to supplant the standard 13" jobs. Having weighed up tyre cost I'll probably only get 14"s, and steel ones at that, since I don't want it to look like a chavved tw*theap and I've a tendancy to rub kerbs whilst exploring cornering lines[:I]
Added to which the scrapyard nearest me want £20 per used/scuffed/road-soiled alloy so they can sod off!
ANyhoo, I looked under the bonnet of a Megane and was suprised to see a 1.6 Energy engine, complete with multi-point injection, which then got me thinking[:D]
I am intending to leave the lump more or less like it is now, apart from trying to free up the breathing a litte with a less restrictive air filter arrangement and maybe try and flow the throttle body a bit. This plus the planned 4-2-1 exhaust fannymould might see me breach the 100bhp barrier? Exciting? Not 'arf!![:p]

Question(s): The silicone hoses that you have used to join the TB's to the manifold, are they reducers or a bit of straight hose that you have stretched to fit?
Is there much of an internal step where the hose ends and the TB's or manifold start?
Did you find it diffcult to bend the hose to match the spacing of the TB's to then head?
What supports the weight of the TB's? just the hoses?

Thanks from someone doing something similar, somewhere.

Sorry, havent checked back here in a while and when I do I realise I have unanswered questions!! My apologies Crog [:I]

In answer:

<i>Is there much of an internal step where the hose ends and the TB's or manifold start?</i> - At the manifold end there isnt much of a step as I had to turn the tubes down for the joiners. At the tb end there is approximately a 4mm step (the wall thckness of the tb's)

<i>Did you find it diffcult to bend the hose to match the spacing of the TB's to then head?</i> - In a word... Yes! the outside runners on the inlet manifold are angled inwards, but they should have been more I think. But they fit fairly well for now [:)]

<i>What supports the weight of the TB's? just the hoses?</i> - Yes, just the hoses for now. I think it should be plenty, the bodies dont weigh much and the whole set up as very stiff.

I've not updated progress much recently, mostly because there hasnt been much progress, but I have been inspired to get on and do a bit recently.

The main progress has been getting the EDIS set up in. The main bit of this was getting a trigger wheel stuck on somewhere, and mounting a crank sensor somewhere near it. The trigger wheel was easy enough, but the sensor bracket took a few goes [xx(]

I got there in the end though, and it looks something like this.

Just out of interest, how did you get the yellow connectors (silicone presumably) to be offset the way they are, I would have thought it impossible to bend them that way, or are they preformed? Did they come with the bike TBs?

<b>Evodelta</b> they came preformed with some of the kink in, I cant remember at this moment who it was I got to make them for me but they were custom..... and dear, about the dearest part yet [:(] Then a little bit of brute force and ignorance got them to fit perfectly [:)]
