Well after far too much time on ebay ive now ended up with 2 bugandy ax gtis both with tax and mot, a mk1 mr2, also taxed and mot'd, lots of turbo bits, hoses, ally pipes, intercooler ect. plus bought off members off the ax owners club i have a saxo vtr engine and a dastek piggyback ecu. And being a typical car nut have a shed loads of bits ive bought over the years cheap off mates ebay ect, and helped stripped a mates r11 when he scrapped it and nabbed the turbo, fuel pump, manifolds, downpipe, hoses for nadda. A few nitrous kits that i bought, and kept all the best bits then sold on the other bits. A few sets of alloys, some with decent tyres to boot. So i have a busy few months ahead building these cars and hopefully get a chance to get one in this years challenge, if not i will still be hiting afew track days in anger soon!

the mr2 just needs the coilovers set up, stripped out and some welding done, when i get my welder that is. But with the brakes and wheels ive bought for it that is just under budget, so unless i sell some bits of it i wont be able to do anything else to it, so dont know if that will be the fastest option. The vtr engine was only 150 quid and that includes a xsi ecu that runs a higher rev limit and has 10bhp more than a standard vtr, and the ax gti's were both not much more than 200 pound each, leaving alot of money spare.

Well sounds like you are several months ahead of me with my MR2. After a lot of reading on the Mk1 MR2 a lot of people reckon you don't gain an awful lot from fancy coilovers as long as the standard ones are still in good condition. It should be king of the slalom but will probably get whupped on the drag. the 4AGE is limited power wise to about 160ish without forced induction and there isnt that much weight you can shed from it other than the passenger seat.

If you could get the VTR or AXs weight down to sub-800kg they would be very good too especially with a lot more horsies.

The best option though is probably to pick one and work hard on it, labour is free, everything else costs and is limited by the £999.

The suspension on the mr2 was shagged so needed replacing, but didnt get the coilovers thinking of the 999 challenge, deffo cheaper options out there! i think the ax's are my best option, with the vtr engine and afew bits be about 115bhp plus the laughing gas, or can be stupid and try and turbo one!

I looked into supercharging but its hard getting a cheap decent supercharger, really you want a centrifugal supercharger, and your looking at afew hundred quid for a secondhand one, plus making the mount, tensioner, pipework, still have to do fueling ect.
You can get the new mini superchargers, eaton type, for about 120 quid, but they are bigger so harder to fit in an ax engine bay, ive seen pics of a mini supercharger fitted onto a saxo on the web.
