Old Models..Reborn/Reimagined...

wild car/engine combo's? grab a badgers milk and a jaffa then tell the gang here

Postby tooSavvy » Sun Aug 01, 2010 11:35 am

The lads over on the IMP forum have been ruminating over what a 'reimagined' IMP would be looking like.. .. :wtf:

The Fiat500 has really done well (I think the VW Beetle is by far the best 'ReWork', mind).

TBH.... the MiNi is too successful.

anyhoo....

I offen wondered what a newer version of the MG B GT would look like (Not the RV8). MG D would be a front engine, rear or four wheel drive two seater with either an all Aluminium 300bhp inline five pot single turbo or 500bhp twin turbo V10. A Sebring edition would have permanent four wheel drive and a single big turbo V10 instead of two little ones making 600-800bhp depending on boost, mapping and customer spec'.

Isn't the new Hillman Imp call Smart and made by Merc'? ;)

i got in..

I think the question should be

Redesign an old car eg classic to BMW mini, or Update an old car to have modern running gear but remain fairly as was

Update an old car with modern running gear. Best of both worlds. Cars from when designers used paper and engines that have had the best computermebobs workifying in them.

Oh and the BMW Mini is an abomination of an automotive monstrosity.

Surely I covered this best with my slightly pleading request to Ford for a new Mk1 Escort? 1.6 direct injection Duratec, all ally bodyshell (bit of lotus tech there), rwd and 2+2 seating (call it 4 seats tho, thats what shopping car hatchbacks do)

Then release a 2.0 duratec sporting ITB and a slightly lairy bodykit. Slap some RS badges on along with a blue and white paint job and watch them fly sideways out the show rooms.

Ok, so it's not an oldish car and only stopped production a few years ago, but having read this, then this months issue, how about a new 8 series.

I can imagine it would be preety spectacular looking and no doubt it would pack some serious power.

but how well would they do against a 6 series? be like it's big ASBO brother.

Well they tried bringing the 8 back a few years ago and it was that horrid James Bond monstrosity.

The 6 seems to have filled that gap in the market. A new 8 should only be considered if its a pure 2 seater I think to compete in the supercar league and have a top speed knocking on 240mph. Although an M6 isn't far off that now at 200+mph.

Practical Performance Car (PPC) magazine, a monthly publication aimed at real car enthusiasts, with real-world cars. At PPC we pride ourselves in providing the most entertaining, informative and inspiring features for petrolheads everywhere. Each month we feature an eclectic mix of affordable performance cars, great driving adventures and world-class technical features for the DIY tuner.

Everyone who works on the magazine is a dyed-in-the-wool car enthusiast and this is reflected in the cars we drive and the topics we write about. Whether it be fast road, track-day or grass roots motorsport you’ll find it in PPC. Our editorial team is headed up by well known editor Will Holman. Will has a deserved reputation for his ’stick a V8 under the bonnet’ attitude to life and has had (and crashed/ had stolen/ rusted away) enough cars to fill a monthly magazine on his own. His editorial team is stacked with experience with the likes of Dave Walker (speciality engine management), of the sadly-missed Car and Car Conversions magazine, David Vizard, the legendary engine tuning guru, and Kevin Leaper (speciality buying cars in pubs) – ex technical editor of Practical Classics. Have a look at the Staff Cars and features to give you a flavour of PPC but for the real thing get along to your local WH Smiths or independent newsagent. PPC is on sale on the last Thursday of every month.
