have you seen how much the guy i sold my green car is now trying to flog it on piston heads..... £3000!!!!

To be honest an e30 is gonna handle a lot better than an e21.

Ben has lots and lots of nice m20 bits so i will enquire into what we have spare and kicking around.

well that'd be appreciated Tommi, though i do think the m50 will end up in there... the 24v seems a good move, and as i have a 2.8 bottom end to use with the bigger 325i inlet side it "should" make 220-230bhp i'd have thought?!? i need to do some scrap yard raids for a few e34 bits sump etc for the conversion, but it should be easily done for the budget!!!!

on the m50. take out the MAF and you will notice it will have either metal gauze or a plastic grid in there. cut it out and it will gain you a couple of little ponies just from improving the airflow. not a lot but every little helps.
We did it at fritz bits as an experiment and you could see a tiny difference

Ooh, this is sounding interesting. I also just so happen to have a scrap E34 with M50 fitted just ripe for picking parts from. Sadly though it's my challenge entrant so you'll have to wait and then buy the whole bleedin car from me after the event! :D

Well, it's more weight saving I suppose. And from the front of the car too! I was going to fill the front tyres with helium to try to offset some of the weight of the engine.

How much weight does nitrogen really save per wheel? I can't see it being a huge amount. I'd have thought he'd be better off deskinning the bonnet.

Nitrogen doesn't save weight, what it does do is protect the wheel from corrosion. We use it on aircraft, basicaly with normal air you get condensation problems with the natural moisture content of the air. By using a pure gas such as nitrogen you are keeping the gas inside the wheel maoisture free and so no corrosion issues. I've been running my car tyres on the stuff for years.

lol no no.

nitrogen is more stable in relation to heat changes

e.g when you put a pressure in a tyre, when its red hot and caning round a curcuit it will remain at a more predictable and constant pressurer.

air has lots of variables which change.

Practical Performance Car (PPC) magazine, a monthly publication aimed at real car enthusiasts, with real-world cars. At PPC we pride ourselves in providing the most entertaining, informative and inspiring features for petrolheads everywhere. Each month we feature an eclectic mix of affordable performance cars, great driving adventures and world-class technical features for the DIY tuner.

Everyone who works on the magazine is a dyed-in-the-wool car enthusiast and this is reflected in the cars we drive and the topics we write about. Whether it be fast road, track-day or grass roots motorsport you’ll find it in PPC. Our editorial team is headed up by well known editor Will Holman. Will has a deserved reputation for his ’stick a V8 under the bonnet’ attitude to life and has had (and crashed/ had stolen/ rusted away) enough cars to fill a monthly magazine on his own. His editorial team is stacked with experience with the likes of Dave Walker (speciality engine management), of the sadly-missed Car and Car Conversions magazine, David Vizard, the legendary engine tuning guru, and Kevin Leaper (speciality buying cars in pubs) – ex technical editor of Practical Classics. Have a look at the Staff Cars and features to give you a flavour of PPC but for the real thing get along to your local WH Smiths or independent newsagent. PPC is on sale on the last Thursday of every month.
