local saab loons used to pee the "ponty cruise" massive off a treat in a 9000 aero with boost wound up... then they sold it to one of said massive... lasten about half an hour untill he bombed towards a wall intending to pull hand brake spin round and gun it away... i suppose you guessed it did not spin, it did not gun, it did smash square into the wall!!!

saab loons 1-ponty cok head 0

My Delta Hf powered X 1/9 used to sit at 130mph on the clock (pre-Sat' Nav' so I'd guess 120-ish). Longer legs and double the horses maybe that car could be a contender as well. ;)

I've had thoughts of T5 powered MX-5's for a while. No idea what kinda power and top speed it could have though.

i was initailly worried that a hevay lump in the front of an mx5 would handle awfully but if there managing with an ls1 then something a bit more european/jap would be fine.

The LS1's an all alloy block, I thought the original Mazda engine was cast iron? If that's the case then the LS1 is probably lighter than the original engine

TBH, I seem to remember reading somewhere, that there's only about 5kgs difference between the LS1 and the MX-5's original engine, but I don't know if that's lighter or heavier...
It's still not much though, either way.

well if thats right then your looking at an amazing car there. The mx5 is a cast lump to start. the whole car weighs 1050kg ish and is more or less evenly distributed from front to back.

I want an ls engine

was looking at 700bhp ls3 engines... price doesn't bear thinking about... but the cost is still massively less than any supercar you care to name

Practical Performance Car (PPC) magazine, a monthly publication aimed at real car enthusiasts, with real-world cars. At PPC we pride ourselves in providing the most entertaining, informative and inspiring features for petrolheads everywhere. Each month we feature an eclectic mix of affordable performance cars, great driving adventures and world-class technical features for the DIY tuner.

Everyone who works on the magazine is a dyed-in-the-wool car enthusiast and this is reflected in the cars we drive and the topics we write about. Whether it be fast road, track-day or grass roots motorsport you’ll find it in PPC. Our editorial team is headed up by well known editor Will Holman. Will has a deserved reputation for his ’stick a V8 under the bonnet’ attitude to life and has had (and crashed/ had stolen/ rusted away) enough cars to fill a monthly magazine on his own. His editorial team is stacked with experience with the likes of Dave Walker (speciality engine management), of the sadly-missed Car and Car Conversions magazine, David Vizard, the legendary engine tuning guru, and Kevin Leaper (speciality buying cars in pubs) – ex technical editor of Practical Classics. Have a look at the Staff Cars and features to give you a flavour of PPC but for the real thing get along to your local WH Smiths or independent newsagent. PPC is on sale on the last Thursday of every month.
