BMW racing

Well I've always been a fan of BMW's in motorsport and used to love watching the likes of Steve Soper punt Vauxhalls out the way in his quest to win in the BTCC but I have neither the talent, nor the budget to do it myself. What I do have, is the desire to have some fun behind the wheel of my very own BMW race car, all be it on a much smaller scale. Plus the only thing I'm going up against is a stop watch!

So, with my 1980 something e21 323i, I plan to enter a few hillclimb and sprint events in 2011. My only experience is a track-day or two and a whole heap of enthusiasm. The car is just about ready and has all the required safety mods. It also has a 2.7 litre straight six running triple Weber 45's so should sound fantastic! I have my Sevenoaks Motor Club membership, my helmet and fireproof suit and the licence should be the final piece of the puzzle.

Anyway, I figured I would write about my quest to become a BMW racer in an effort to show that if I can do it, anyone can.

I'll post some when I get home tomorrow as we're away in N Wales making the most of my 2.7 converted 323 road car. We did the Evo triangle and surrounding roads yesterday and it's more of the same today. The weather is great too, with bright sunshine. It has meant a few ice patches to ''focus the mind'' though! I wish I could record the sound of the exhaust going down some of the mountain roads though. Obviously, this is just to let the ramblers know we're coming.

Sounds like a great drive in a great car. Fewer tourist/chav/caravan chicanes this time of year as well. Maybe we could organise a £999 road trip somewhere interesting (now the snakepass is a 50 limit I'm looking for another fun road).

Yes it is. Who did you get it off? I may well know them as it's quite a small 'Monte world'.

Bernie. A thoroughly decent chap from Essex way. His Monte is red with a nicely tuned engine running twin 40's etc. Sadly I never got to see/hear it run but it certainly looked right. I know he's had it for a while too.

A PPC weekend here in N Wales would be epic. I'm just off out to spend a couple of hours on the roads before getting spoilt with a hearty Sunday roast in the hotel restaurant. We were supposed to come at Christmas but the hotel cancelled due to snow. Hence the long weekend being pampered now. Given how great the weather has been it all worked out rather nicely.

sorry i'm late, what did i miss?? i take it thats a big six in the e21 then on carbs, hmmm i think we need to see and for sure hear that!!! just sat here waiting for more info now

i know of a set of throttle bodies for a little six up for sale relativly cheap. fits all the standard moronic eclectricery aswell or more poke if you fit standalone.

Doubt it mate. What'd they be worth? Maybe 20bhp tops?
Now, ITBs on a 2.8 M50 would be nice!!
