Is my car too slow?

If you can’t stand the smell of petrol, if you don’t get goose pimples when a dragster launches, or if your manicurist’s phone number is on speed dial, bugger off. PPC in the Park is not for you. But for the rest of you we’ve some good news. PPC in the Park is back 19th May 2012 at Mallory Park

Hi,

I came to the PPC in the park event last year and loved it! me and my Dad were mesmerised by the roof chop Roller, that was awesome!

I really want to bring my car this year, but it's a 1L Polo, and isn't going to be modified in any way really by May (would bike carbs and a straight through make THAT much difference to 45bhp anyway????).

I don't feel embarrassed by the car as such, but I am concerned about getting in the way of everyone. Apart from being too slow, I am a complete novice on a track too.

How do the seasoned veterans feel?

I would say, get on track!!

I don't think anyone's going to mind you being a bit slower, just so long as you aren't all over the track.

You've got to gain track experience some how, and what better way to start than at PPCITP

Don't be embrassed by what your driving, I'm sure there's a few on here that have owned far worse!! I mean, my first 2 cars were, 5.7 litre American Pickup, and a V8 MGBGT (I don't suppose that's too embrassing really  ), anyway, you get my point :wtf:

Do it. As Franky says, don't act like a twat. Don't try to stop folks from passing. Don't think you've got to get out of their way either. If you're first to a corner, it's yours. Let others drive around you or follow you through the curve. Keep an eye on the road ahead, the other eye on the mirrors and your other spare eyes looking over your shoulders. Enjoy.

Yeah get it out there, I suspect it won't be *that* much slower than some of the modified stuff if it holds good speed in the corners.

I'll be taking my completely untested garage creation so I'm more likely to cause a fuss when I break down halfway round Gerrards throwing oil and car parts everywhere...

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! You stupid feckin clown! Jaffa cakes are cakes. Not biscuits! Cakes go hard when they go stale, biscuits go soft. See? Every day is a school day.

Practical Performance Car (PPC) magazine, a monthly publication aimed at real car enthusiasts, with real-world cars. At PPC we pride ourselves in providing the most entertaining, informative and inspiring features for petrolheads everywhere. Each month we feature an eclectic mix of affordable performance cars, great driving adventures and world-class technical features for the DIY tuner.

Everyone who works on the magazine is a dyed-in-the-wool car enthusiast and this is reflected in the cars we drive and the topics we write about. Whether it be fast road, track-day or grass roots motorsport you’ll find it in PPC. Our editorial team is headed up by well known editor Will Holman. Will has a deserved reputation for his ’stick a V8 under the bonnet’ attitude to life and has had (and crashed/ had stolen/ rusted away) enough cars to fill a monthly magazine on his own. His editorial team is stacked with experience with the likes of Dave Walker (speciality engine management), of the sadly-missed Car and Car Conversions magazine, David Vizard, the legendary engine tuning guru, and Kevin Leaper (speciality buying cars in pubs) – ex technical editor of Practical Classics. Have a look at the Staff Cars and features to give you a flavour of PPC but for the real thing get along to your local WH Smiths or independent newsagent. PPC is on sale on the last Thursday of every month.
