Right Salami is knackered. Its a project thats been dying for about a year now and I've had enough. The shell is all hacked about but there is plenty of useful stuff there which can be flogged to regain capital for the next project.

Only trouble is - what next project?

I've only got space for one car project at a time and that space is ~4mx2m, so no uber-barges or intercity powered flat-beds

It has to be a vaguely useable second car because I'm sick of having to rush any work on the Jag on my days off, so road-legal and MOT-able.

It has to be interesting - I don't want to get bored of it after 3 days - so probably not a new audi.

Anything well trodden will similarly bore me despite how ludicously fast it might be point to point, so tuning a rice rocket with a succession of chips, turbos and other deep fried bolt ons isn't really my cuppa.

I have no preference on drivetrain layout as my rwd kicks are supplied daily by the feline. Ideally something that will complement the jag and feel different to drive.

What you need is a nice open top MGF. I might know of one for sale :)

You still got that T16, LSD etc? Although it doesn't really grab me as a project idea atm.

Maaaaaybe. My dad had a 1300 MG that got written off before I could drive, twas in mint green. One like that might be tempting.

Metro with a Rotary? Do they bolt up to any fwd boxes at all? a FWD Wanky Metro/Fiesta sounds like fun.

Relentless Rob wrote:Rover 213S....

With a Wanky engine? You should do it Rob.

Thinking further small is better than big as the garage isn't really the most spacious place with just a seicento in it.

Cheap to run would be a bonus too. Small engined and revvy or drinking from the dirty tap seems to appeal to my inner scrouge after realising I spend £200 a month on petrol in the Jag.

Target buy price of sub £1000 because I'd like to drag it along to the £999 every year for a laugh regardless of what it is.

Any small and cheap hatchbacks, coupes, convertibles that anyone can recommend as being fun to drive and fit in the other criteria?

Oh and a finished target 0-60 of about 6seconds would be what I want. I can live with slower if its a very good steer or very cheap to run :D Essentially I don't want it to feel slower than the jag and be just as pricey at the pumps.

One suggestion from my bro was another Mk1 MR2 now that I have garage facilities to fix any rot properly. They aren't that quick but they're amazing to drive when sorted. So thats a good example of the sort of thing.

If you measure it correctly it would still be a 1.3 ;)

How about taking a leap from Nick's book "Stick a V6 in it!"?

This...

...(N/A Rover 220 Coupe with a blown engine) and either a KV6 or 827 Honda engine?

Pop up lights Volvo 480 Turbo...

...with an S40 T4 or T5 if you canget it in there?

Why not build the car Mazda should have 13B powered Eunos/MX5? ;)

I saw an opel kaddet sort of a chevette but cooler was a rolling shell but you could fit what ever you wanted in it .
May need the magic calculater to keep it in budget though.

A polo mk3 with a turbo bolted on
Or you could get a ford fiesta mk1 and go supercharged . Ideally a puma lump 1.4 might bolt in and go for a bini charger or modern tdci in a fista mk1

The GF has just suggested I get a classic and restore it instead.

Restomod does sound interesting to me. So taking that theme further suggestions please?

Steve33- tdci mk1 fiesta sounds fun but those tdci lumps aren't cheap by the time you've got all the bits to make them run.

I don't mind doing welding and fabrication btw but machining and that sort of thing need to be kept to a minimum as I'd have to get it all done by someone else.

Yeah know what you mean .
I now have a garage so can potentialy put a 999 project together though my tools are lacking and so is my time these days .
A midget might be fun with a more modern lump in it say a kseries or an mx5 lump.
So whats the score with the salami ?

Several things, mostly lost interest in it as its been over 2 years now since I drove it anywhere. Still needs rear suspension, uprights, radiator, heater etc sorting out, something I don't have the ability to do myself and paying someone else even just to do the machining will be expensive. Can't get the engine to fit in the front which would have taken a lot of pain out of sorting the rear suspension and made it vaguely sensible.

An alfa V6 would have made more sense, using something like this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Alfa-Romeo-3-0-V6-24-v-engine-and-gear-box-/150692862860?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2315fe9b8c

At the end of the day a 1.4 16V cento will be just as quick as salami, be easier and cheaper to build and run.

Agreed but I tend to gravitate to cars like that. There are better examples on the bay for upwards of 1500 sheets. If your looking to go classic what about a spitfire with a proper back axle or this

Whats your buying budget?
