Do you need suspension for the IVA test?

Tell PPC and the readers.

Hi all,

My thread about the mini Se7en, I saw in Harrods, has got me thinking.
(viewtopic.php?f=1&t=9818)

I quite like the idea of building a road legal tot rod, using the mini Cobra body, that's on eBay, but I was wondering, do I need to have suspension to pass the IVA?
Or, at the least, can I get away with just front, or rear suspension only, like a hardtail chopper?

Does anyone know?

Cheers Frank.

I guess not but the bumpsteer would be intolerable.

Can you not use a road legal quad as a platform and M.O.T it as re-bodied thus avoiding the IVA tax? ;)

Wouldn't get much bumpsteer if there's no suspension

Well, there's a guy in Ealing with a road legal kart so I'm guessing not. The ride would be horrid though.

I know the ride would be rough, but I thought it would be fun if I could cruise up and down the street in it, from time to time.

My thinking was to build a conventional tot rod/go kart(but with 4 wheel brakes, and handbrake), then fit a suitable seat and seatbelt, and lights.

Hey presto!! A road legal go kart!!

Well, it looks like it's ok, I just need 1 of these, and drop a body on it...

If you keep the engine size and power small enough you could get away with a quadricycle rather than car test, much more lax on the requirements, thats how that G-Wiz thing is road legal.

Small go-kart plus body to fit the lights in. Lighting minimum heights is probably the only big impediment I can see.
