Galaxy vr6 turbo

wild car/engine combo's? grab a badgers milk and a jaffa then tell the gang here

Postby Robmarriott » Thu Jun 21, 2012 7:50 pm

Saw one on the back of a scrap wagon today when I was on the way to get a pastie. It ha another galaxy atop so it was VERY low, maybe an inch of sill to floor clearance.

On the way back round to work, I was going over it in my head and thinking about how good it would look with some big wheels, a roll cage and the like.

Something a bit like a 90s touring car but without the stickers, and a little bit taller.

Engine wise though, they lack a little, 1.9tdi, 2.0 and 2.3 petrol boat anchors but then it came to me, the diamond in the rough, the VR6 engine left over from the vw/ford agreement.

This engine is perfect, 2.8 litres, six cylinders and a noise which compares to nothing else, it also proven to be capable of ridiculous power outputs, some of the tuners on the continent are getting nearly 1000hp from them!

The other plus point, as just short of 1000hp is too much for fwd, is that some of them came with a vw sourced 4wd system, which would help. Failing that, I suppose a big set of drag tyres would probably allow you to have the fastest MPV over the 1/4 mile.

Wonder if Renault would be willing to drag the Espace F1 out for a race?

Who's in?

I thought the Galaxy had the Cologne 2.8 V6?

I'm a bit gutted that the turbo technics kit won't fit now. There are a few options for the VR6, turbo conversions, Vortex superchargers and so on. I don't think it would be as fast as a Fiat Coupe' 20V Turbo powered Multipla. ;)

I nearly bought a VR6 Galaxy for last years £999, it sold for £250.

The Synchro VR6 Sharan is a pretty rapid motor, and has the traction to put the power down rather well.

Something simialr to this cropped up in another thread a while back:

I think it's an interesting idea. Worth bearing in mind that they are a heavy brute but as I said in the old thread, the seats weigh a hell of a lot and would double as a nice load lugger and tow car esp if 4wd.

I have a vague recollection of exactly this being built. Converted as a one off (possibly a sales demonstrator) for the police.
Pretty sure it was broken up after testing.

Practical Performance Car (PPC) magazine, a monthly publication aimed at real car enthusiasts, with real-world cars. At PPC we pride ourselves in providing the most entertaining, informative and inspiring features for petrolheads everywhere. Each month we feature an eclectic mix of affordable performance cars, great driving adventures and world-class technical features for the DIY tuner.

Everyone who works on the magazine is a dyed-in-the-wool car enthusiast and this is reflected in the cars we drive and the topics we write about. Whether it be fast road, track-day or grass roots motorsport you’ll find it in PPC. Our editorial team is headed up by well known editor Will Holman. Will has a deserved reputation for his ’stick a V8 under the bonnet’ attitude to life and has had (and crashed/ had stolen/ rusted away) enough cars to fill a monthly magazine on his own. His editorial team is stacked with experience with the likes of Dave Walker (speciality engine management), of the sadly-missed Car and Car Conversions magazine, David Vizard, the legendary engine tuning guru, and Kevin Leaper (speciality buying cars in pubs) – ex technical editor of Practical Classics. Have a look at the Staff Cars and features to give you a flavour of PPC but for the real thing get along to your local WH Smiths or independent newsagent. PPC is on sale on the last Thursday of every month.
