David Vizard here - what can I say for an introduction??

Ring the bell and say "Hi" by telling us a little about you and your car. The PPC lock up always has someone in who'll get the door and welcome you in (it helps if you bring a box of jaffas)

Hi guys, I have decided that since PPC is the co-sponsor of the 'Practical Performance Car How to Build Horsepower'Seminar taking place this September at the University of Swansea I would throw my lot in on the forum. This does not mean I am here to answer every tech question thrown at me but if anything interesting comes up that might apply to a bunch of PPC forum members I will give it a try. Meanwhile check out what PPC myself and the venerable Dave Walker have planned so far at Swansea. (http://www.davidvizardseminars.com)

In addition to this I have started a Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/DavidVizardAuto. This is where you can pick up on more general stuff than would be the case for a purely tech question.

Hi fella's

I am somewhat taken aback by the enthusiastic response of those of you who posted. Very flattering to say the least though I am not entirely sure I deserve it - but thanks anyway.

I thought I might get the ball rolling on some popular go fast subjects and I have come up with a way or two to do that while meeting the needs of the greatest number of readers at each stage of the game.

Here is what I thought might work.

I want you to pick two subjects that might appeal to a wide audience. One from my list of seminar subjects on my web site at davidvizardseminars.com and one you guys choose.

From that I will take and make a short list and work from there. And by-the-way if you want to see me actually lecturing go to this YouTube video at:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6Watsam ... re=g-all-u

To make this all work you need to spread the word among other PPC subscribers. I need a big magazine like group to work with as there is a lot of work involved in a comprehensive tech feature.

Hi David and welcome to the forum.
I spotted the videos you did for Dart Heads at the PRI Show in Orlando.
They really are brilliant for getting a handle on head porting. Haven't seen anything else like them on the web anywhere. More of the same would be good if you have the time. Also like your latest book on 'Cylinder Heads' and the one on 'How To Build Horsepower'. If the seminar in Swansea is based on the book, wow. Will be a must save up for deal.

Thanks Rob,

just like to say there are 4 more parts to this video plus a whole load of dyno tests on YouTube that can be reached by putting 'David Vizard' into the search bar. Some of you just might be interested in my 825 hp 87 octane street motor. If so it's there.

Just took my first look at these video's myself here. I am surprised at the quality - the TV camera guy and the mike he used were all way off at the back of the seminar room. Not much mini stuff in it so maybe I should rectify that with some porting posts!!!!
Thanks for the welcome here.

I'll be perfectly frank (and probably get something thrown at me) and say I had no idea who you are until you popped up in PPC this month, sorry. Its seems you've been getting on with it rather than shouting horsepower at every tom, dick and harry that walks past.

As someone in the process of retraining it would be nice to know how you got to where you are now.

Cheers

Tech writer Martin Bell and my old friend Mike Lane are jointly authoring my biography on www.theminiforum.co.uk.
The first installment will be in a week or so.

Practical Performance Car (PPC) magazine, a monthly publication aimed at real car enthusiasts, with real-world cars. At PPC we pride ourselves in providing the most entertaining, informative and inspiring features for petrolheads everywhere. Each month we feature an eclectic mix of affordable performance cars, great driving adventures and world-class technical features for the DIY tuner.

Everyone who works on the magazine is a dyed-in-the-wool car enthusiast and this is reflected in the cars we drive and the topics we write about. Whether it be fast road, track-day or grass roots motorsport you’ll find it in PPC. Our editorial team is headed up by well known editor Will Holman. Will has a deserved reputation for his ’stick a V8 under the bonnet’ attitude to life and has had (and crashed/ had stolen/ rusted away) enough cars to fill a monthly magazine on his own. His editorial team is stacked with experience with the likes of Dave Walker (speciality engine management), of the sadly-missed Car and Car Conversions magazine, David Vizard, the legendary engine tuning guru, and Kevin Leaper (speciality buying cars in pubs) – ex technical editor of Practical Classics. Have a look at the Staff Cars and features to give you a flavour of PPC but for the real thing get along to your local WH Smiths or independent newsagent. PPC is on sale on the last Thursday of every month.
