Postby patrick1 » Sat Aug 25, 2012 8:37 am

As i might be able to lay my hands on a Granada Cosworth fairly right, full car, i was thinking of making mg a V6, i would be leavin it auto as the missus kinda owns mg aswell and she only drives auto`s,, As mg is a bare shell at moment.{look at pa`s mg project}now is the time for alterations if needed,
any thoughts, :?:

Should sit closer to the bulkhead than the ubiquitous Rover/Buick V8.

Whatever you do keep hold of the rear diff assembly and look for Hoyle Engineering. They do a bolt on subframe for the MGB that converts the car to independent rear suspension using Ford bits. Originally designed for a Mustang V8 conversion they do a Ford mounting front cross member as well. While you have a bare shell you could either get hold of a Hoyle set up or make your own based roughly on the Scorpio subframe and a few brackets. :)

You may need Sebring arches due to the Granada being a little bit wider but that not a bad thing. ;)

Wowzers I don't remember the price list being so "if I win the lotto" territory.

The guys at Wisbech Engineering can do the same job for less but there's a two year waiting list.

It could be worth taking the original subframe off, rip it apart and modify it to fit a basic cradle mounted to the MGB's floor instead.

Rover V8's are longer, but they are so much lighter!
Rover V8 144 kg (318 lb)
Granada Cosworth ? Nowhere on the net (I can find) lists it's weight! It's a boat anchor, weighing roughly the same as a small moon. If a meteorite with the same mass impacted earth, it would wipe out all life (putting an end to Big Brother).

And it's been done...

Finally!
"Ford Cologne 2.0-2.8 V6 380[lb]" or 172 kg.
(that's for the 12 valve version, not the cosworth)

Looks like there's enough room for a supercharger in there.

At PPC we pride ourselves in providing the most entertaining, informative and inspiring features for petrolheads everywhere. Whether it be fast road, track-day or grass roots motorsport you’ll find it in PPC. Our editorial team is headed up by well known editor Will Holman. Will has a deserved reputation for his ’stick a V8 under the bonnet’ attitude to life and has had (and crashed/ had stolen/ rusted away) enough cars to fill a monthly magazine on his own. His editorial team is stacked with experience with the likes of Dave Walker (speciality engine management), of the sadly-missed Car and Car Conversions magazine, David Vizard, the legendary engine tuning guru, and Kevin Leaper (speciality buying cars in pubs) – ex technical editor of Practical Classics. Have a look at the Staff Cars and features to give you a flavour of PPC but for the real thing get along to your local WH Smiths or independent newsagent.
