Monaco Grand Prix Historique 2012

From events to project building this is the place to share all

Bit late but thats where I was yesterday. An awesome day and well worth the trip and quite cheap too (1 euro for the bus from Nice and the tickets were only £50 in advance although if you didn't mind where you ended up sitting they were available for about £35 on the day in the poorer seats.

Much better than the F1 as it covers sports cars and Grand Prix and F1 from pre 1950 right up to 1980. I didn't get to see the 1970s F1s (Tyrell 6 wheeler and lotus JPS) as it was rained off for the end of the day. :(

But the earlier stuff like Jaguar Type Cs, Allards, Aston Martin DB3s, Ferrari 225s, Lotus, BRM, Cooper single seaters etc all being given a good thrashing around the Monaco Grand Prix circuit is something every petrol head should try to go see just once. Oh and you can leave the Mrs in Nice to enjoy the French Riviera of sun, sea and shopping. Everyones happy :D

I should have got a better camera and the internet is poo here so I've only managed to upload a couple of vids. I'll do the rest when I get home.

Enjoy.

After a conversation this evening, turns out I nearly know a guy who was driving an ERA at that race... six degrees of separation :D

Andy Middlehurst was the guy who won series D (F1 1961-65) in the Climax engined Lotus 25 by about 40 seconds!

I thought I recognised the name from somewhere. Turns out he runs the local Nissan Dealers which I've been in to get the door lock fixed on my old Primera :D

Its a pretty small world really.

"Do the Monaco historique" sounds like PPC999ers gate crashing in plastic cars and excessively wound up turbo sheds :D

Owelly could fetch the Turd. There's a chance it might make it to the ferry at Hull, then we could bury it at sea

Practical Performance Car (PPC) magazine, a monthly publication aimed at real car enthusiasts, with real-world cars. At PPC we pride ourselves in providing the most entertaining, informative and inspiring features for petrolheads everywhere. Each month we feature an eclectic mix of affordable performance cars, great driving adventures and world-class technical features for the DIY tuner.

Everyone who works on the magazine is a dyed-in-the-wool car enthusiast and this is reflected in the cars we drive and the topics we write about. Whether it be fast road, track-day or grass roots motorsport you’ll find it in PPC. Our editorial team is headed up by well known editor Will Holman. Will has a deserved reputation for his ’stick a V8 under the bonnet’ attitude to life and has had (and crashed/ had stolen/ rusted away) enough cars to fill a monthly magazine on his own. His editorial team is stacked with experience with the likes of Dave Walker (speciality engine management), of the sadly-missed Car and Car Conversions magazine, David Vizard, the legendary engine tuning guru, and Kevin Leaper (speciality buying cars in pubs) – ex technical editor of Practical Classics. Have a look at the Staff Cars and features to give you a flavour of PPC but for the real thing get along to your local WH Smiths or independent newsagent. PPC is on sale on the last Thursday of every month.
