Ed Hall’s Porsche 924 2.0
Share on facebookCut price German sports coupé.

The path to owning an old sports car for virtually nothing is never a direct one. It’s a rather hand to mouth affair, which is PPC Staffer Ed Hall’s roundabout explanation as to why he’s ended up with four of these 924 things.
He’d start to build one, then a better one would come his way, so he’d start on that one, then another one would come along. Six months after getting his first 924 Ed is now on his fourth. As a result the garage at Hall Towers now looks like the aftermath of an explosion at Audi’s Neckarsulm plant where the 924s were built.
The upside of this chaos theory car buying is that Ed now has a nice original car and mountains of spares should anything go wrong. The downsides are that it’s very space consuming, time consuming, time wasting, messy and Ed’s girlfriend is annoyed with him.
Much maligned as the 924 is, it’s a brilliant car, and whatever people say, a proper Porsche. Straight line speed it might not have but rear-drive, a 50:50 weight distribution and a lack of weight make for a beautifully balanced chassis: one with impeccable manners and great communication skills.
This latest one he’s got is a really nice, straight, unmolested car, and it only cost £80. Ed’s put a new exhaust and cambelt on it, then serviced it so it should be ready for its MoT.

Once that hurdle’s out of the way Ed’s going to use it for trackdays and start with the modifications. Lowering, harnesses, less weight, sticky tyres - you get the idea.
Hopefully this one should teach Ed to drive properly.
Until then watch out for him veering around uncontrollably at a trackday near you.
Ed swaped this car for a Lexus. God knows why.
