Steve Pathirana’s Triumph TR6

Fit EFi. Lose power.

PPC contributor’s Steve Pathirana has done what most people would consider madness, and is trying to put a TR6 back together that somebody else took apart. The car had a body restoration and respray before Steve got the car but that didn’t stop one of the floorpans needing welding in properly – Steve entrusted this work to a specialist and got on with refurbing all the ancillary parts that arrived in a pile of boxes with the car.

Since then the engine’s been rebuilt and Steve’s now concentrating on performance upgrades. He’s fitted an oil cooler and electric cooling fan and junked the TR’s original Lucas mechanical fuel-injection in favour of EFi.

Living in Belgium, Steve got the car setup on the rolling road at local tuning specialists Motorenrevisied Deckers in Essen. With EFi the TR actually lost 20bhp on the standard power output, something that caused much hilarity for those in PPC Towers.

Next on the agenda for Steve is to try and work out where the lost power from the TRs engine has gone, and due to him being a perfectionist, to get the car resprayed once again.

Steven's now sold this car and is planning to buy an old Porsche 911.
